How Do I Turn Social Media Into Business?

Posted In: Uncategorized

Your career in Real estate going to incorporate Social Media?  Yes it will – whether you like it or not.

One of the things to remember about social media is it’s purpose is the same as much of the sales process – to allow you to connect with more people, and deepen or enhance your relationships with that network or group.  So, when operating in an online environment, it’s important to understand that the same principles that apply in person apply to these relationships.

Using the analogy of the bank account to describe these relationships, it’s important that yourelationship make as many deposits to the account as possible before you look to make withdrawals.  If you are simply selling online all the time, you are making nothing but withdrawals, because selling really is asking for something.  The only way that most people are okay with you asking for something, whether in real life or online, is if you have given them something of value before that.  Remember – Adding value to your network is how your Real Estate business grows.

So how do you give value through social media channels?  Here’s 3 ideas for real estate agents to help turn Friends into Business:

  1. Post valuable local pieces – people are generally interested in what’s going on in their local market, and in the development of their region.  Add value to the conversation by introducing new and locally relevant articles, blogposts, videos, updates etc.  This makes it easier for people to discover info, and can help save them time or money
  2. Participate in conversations – the social part of social media is often missed by agents.  Start to follow your customers (past, present and potential) and engage in conversation with them!  Answer questions, engage in discussion and deepen the relationship.
  3. Take it offline – once you start following your potential clients on the different social media channels, get to know what makes them tick.  Your client loves antique cars?  Instead of sending them your real estate calendar, send them a calendar with antiques that they will enjoy, with a note thanking them for their support.  That is how you can leverage the media to add value to your relationships.

Once you stop being “the big bad salesperson” online, and start to really connect with people about what matters to them, you will see such a tremendous return on your social media efforts that you will be shocked you didn’t do it before!
