The Power of Small

One of the lessons that I have learned over the course of my sales career and my current Broker role is the power of the “Small”.  What I mean by this is the massive success you find from completing consistent, small tasks regularly.  There are a number of small tasks that I see successful agents doing daily, weekly and monthly – and these are the ones that set them apart!

Here are some of the things that I see the most successful agents doing:

Daily:

  1. Stop in at the Office – although it isn’t the spot that you are going to sell any real estate, one of the challenges that the office can help with is getting some structure in your workday.  Treat your business like a business, and hit the office for an hour a day.
  2. Reach out to 5 people – this is a time tested cliche in the real estate business, but here’s the thing – it works.  Whether it is calling, emails, facebook, twitter, or actually getting together with someone – you need to consistently reach out and connect with people every day.
  3. Check the New Listings – Great Agents seem to know every house on the market – wanna know why?  They work at it!  The best agents are looking at what is coming on the market multiple times a day – they know the inventory.

Weekly:

  1. Get out to Lunch / Coffee with 3 people – Sales happen in person.  Sales means developing trust with the people in your Sphere of Influence, and trust develops In Person.  Grab a coffee a few times a week – every week.
  2. Talk to every client – without fail.  If you have had no other reason to contact your current listings and buyers by Friday – touch base with every client that morning.  This is when they need to hear from you most!

Monthly:

  1. Give Value to your Database – Whether through a newsletter, a coupon, an information piece or whatever, you should be adding value to your database monthly.  This activity will help not only keep you top of mind, but will help to increase the professional trust that people have in your business.

It is clear that none of these things are rocket science, and none are big projects, but they all require consistent effort, and proactive thought.  They are, however, the activities that can make you wildly successful in our business!
