A brief History of The Biscuit Eater

Our community cafe & bookstore is a Black led business located on the South Shore of Mik’mak’i, in one of Mahone Bay’s oldest buildings (circa 1775).

Named after a short story about segregation in the American South, our famous buttermilk biscuits are part of a long legacy of Black culinary excellence.
The Biscuit Eater is honoured to be a recipient of the 2021 Restaurant of the Year award (Taste of Nova Scotia).

Tucked away upstairs (perfect to rent for extra income or live in yourself) you’ll find a spacious apartment with gorgeous soft wood plank floors, complete with a full bath, and large dormer windows that let the natural light flow though- All within the walls of one of Mahone Bay’s oldest buildings. Located less than an hour from Halifax, The Biscuit Eater is the perfect day trip away from the hustle and bustle of city living.

On the main level, book lined walls create a cozy and warm atmosphere greeting your guests with a feeling of “home”. Two dining rooms create ample seating while maintaining the warm cafe feel. The kitchen boasts large prep surfaces and lots of storage.

A beautiful outdoor space with patio and plenty of parking make this space perfect for an afternoon coffee or hosting an event.
