August 1, 2021How to Prepare for an Open House
When an open house event is being hosted at your home, there are a few key points to consider that will help you prepare your home.
1. Declutter
If you haven’t already done this to prepare your home for listing, it is important to take a look around at the items in your home to see what can be decluttered. This will help to open up the room, and allow potential buyers to see a clean slate that they can make their own!
2. Tidy Pet Areas
If you have a companion in your home, be sure to tidy their areas. Look out for toys, beds and blankets, food and litter boxes; you should even store these items away when possible.
3. Inviting Entrance
Put yourself in a potential buyer’s shoes, both inside and outside of your home! Walk up to your home from the outside making note of any yard work or exterior touch-ups needed. As you enter the front door, check door hardware for functionality or maintenance, and ensure your entryway and closet are tidy.
4. Fresh Air
It’s important to give potential buyers a fresh perspective of your home, and a great first impression. Use an air exchanger or open windows and screened doors to allow air flow through your home. Don’t rely on heavily scented air fresheners, keep smells natural and welcoming for all.
5. Find Something To Do
Most importantly, you should find an activity for members of your household (even the furry ones) that will allow your home to be vacant for the duration of the Open House. If this is not possible, do your best to stay confined to an area of your home and allow potential buyers unobstructed access.
